11th Day of Christmas

The 11th Day of Christmas celebrates the Feast of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, who was the first American Saint.  The celebration is held on January 4th.  The Feast of St. Simeon Stylites also occurs on this day.

The Eleventh Day of Christmas at McMullen House is depicted 11 pipers piping in the Parlor.  The pipers represent the eleven faithful apostles.

 

History of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton was born in 1774 and established the first Catholic girls school and the Sisters of Charity.  Called “Mother Seton”, a number of schools are named for her including Seton Hall University, Seton Hill University, and Elizabeth Seton High School.  More information about Elizabeth Ann Seton can be found at the Catholic online site.
